Writing for YA (ALL AGES): Saturday, May 30 8:00AM – 10:00AM ($20.00)

Our favorite YA novels jump off the page and inspire us and the communities that surround us. How do they do that? Find that spark of creativity and discover a voice that speaks directly to young adults. Do you have that fresh idea that you just can’t forget? Now is your chance to become a modern day storyteller and learn how to write the book that YOU want to read! Please bring something to write with. Sci-Fi/Fantasy Writing Workshop (+17): Saturday, May 30 8:00AM – 10:00AM ($20.00)

Fantasy and sci-fi writers like Patrick Rothfuss and George R.R. Martin are producing some of the most compelling fiction of our time. You’ll focus on how to combine mind-bending world-building with a powerful narrative drive. You’ll look closely at the special questions posed by selected speculative fiction texts, a series of guided prompts will be folded into our discussion. Please bring something to write with. Handouts and additional instructions will be provided. This workshop is designed for ages 17+.

Let the prompts guide you! Our own works of fiction are a leap into the unknown and this workshop will combine the art of language with boldness of your imaginative grasp. You will discover more about your own writing and discuss important works by some of the great writers who have come before us. Please bring something to write with. Are you obsessed with the fae in A Court of Thorns and Roses? Have you thought about what it would be like if life was more like a video game in Ready Player One? In this all ages workshop we will learn how to make the impossible a reality on the page. Look at how magic and technology can change the world around us by looking at some of the authors that made it possible! Please bring something to write with and your imagination. Handouts and additional instructions will be provided. This workshop is designed for writers of all ages.

Bundle Description

In this next level workshop, you will learn how to build your story from the ground up. The first class you will learn writing exercises, building characters, conflict and setting. The next day you will read aloud what you’ve written and then talk about story structure in terms of your writing. At the end of the two days, you will have character, setting, and structure, all the tools to write a story. Even have an actual story idea and a scene already written! There is no prerequisite to take this class. Please bring something to write with. Handouts and additional instructions will be provided. This workshop is designed for ages 17+.
